Achieving your ideal weight requires a clear understanding of how many calories you should consume daily. Whether your goal is weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain, knowing your recommended calorie intake will help you adjust your diet accordingly. Use the calculator below to determine how many calories you need to achieve your goal.

What is Calorie Intake and Why is it Important?

Calorie intake refers to the number of calories you consume daily from food and beverages. Your body needs a certain number of calories to maintain essential functions like breathing, digestion, and circulation. This is known as your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). However, to achieve your weight goals, you need to adjust your calorie intake depending on your activity level and your desired outcome—whether it’s weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain.

  • Weight Loss: A calorie deficit is required (consume fewer calories than you burn).
  • Maintenance: Calories consumed match the calories burned.
  • Muscle Gain: A calorie surplus is needed (consume more calories than you burn).

How the Calculator Works

  1. BMR Calculation:
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is used to estimate your BMR, which is the number of calories your body burns at rest.
    • Men: BMR = (10 × Weight) + (6.25 × Height) – (5 × Age) + 5
    • Women: BMR = (10 × Weight) + (6.25 × Height) – (5 × Age) – 161
  2. Activity Level Adjustment:
Your BMR is multiplied by a factor depending on your activity level to determine your maintenance calories.
  3. Goal Adjustment:
Depending on your selected goal, the calculator adds or subtracts 500 calories to/from your maintenance calories for weight loss or muscle gain.

Recommendations Based on Results

  • Weight Loss: Aim for a balanced calorie deficit through diet and exercise.
  • Weight Maintenance: Stay consistent with your current habits.
  • Muscle Gain: Incorporate strength training and increase protein intake.
